Ljubljana, 8 June - Below is a schedule of events for Friday, 9 June:

LJUBLJANA - The National statistical Office is to present at 10:30 AM its preliminary assessment of Slovenia's GDP in Q1 2006, as well as trends in public finances between 1999 and 2006. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The Franc Rozman Stane military barracks is to host a 1 PM a military ceremony as Slovenian Army's new Chief-of-Staff General Lieutenant Albin Gutman will take over from his predecessor Major General Ladislav Lipic. (STA/PHOTO)

LUXEMBOURG, Luxembourg - EU transport ministers, including Slovenia's Janez Bozic, are expected to discuss public services in railroad and road transport and sign an agreement on a joint European air space.

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Jure Zupan is to attend the closing day of a conference on new guidelines for the Eureka programme.

KLAGENFURT, Austria - A delegation of the European Parliament's multi-party group for minorities is to acquaint itself with the position of the Slovenian minority in the Austrian province of Carinthia. The group, including four Slovenian MEP is to speak to the press at 4 PM.

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary EU affairs committee will discuss the positions of government representatives who are to attend the 12 and 13 June meeting of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council and the 15 and 16 June EU Council meeting. A press statement is expected at 2 PM.

LJUBLJANA - President Janez Drnovsek is to receive credentials of the non-residential Egypt's Ambassador to Slovenia Hisham Mohamed el-Zimaity at 11 AM; and Philippines non-residential Ambassador to Slovenia Linglingay Fonacier Lacanlale.

LJUBLJANA - Social partners, representatives of the government, trade unions and employers, are to continue talks on the changes to the employment act. Labour Minister Janez Drobnic is to be at hand for a press statement after the talks end, presumably at 1 PM.

LJUBLJANA - Czech Culture Minister Vitezslav Jandak will begin his four-day official visit to Slovenia, upon invitation of his counterpart Vasko Simoniti. The ministers are expected to discuss cultural cooperation and a possible bilateral deal on culture and cultural heritage.

NOVA GORICA - The second stage of the 13th Tour of Slovenia will take the cyclists from Medvode to Nova Gorica. (STA)

MARIBOR - Slovenia's women volleyball team is to face Finland at 7:30 PM in a qualifying match for the European Volleyball Championships.

SKOPJE, Macedonia - Slovenia's men volleyball team will continue their qualifying campaign for the European Volleyball Championships at 5:30 PM against the Netherlands.
