PRESS REPORT FROM SLOVENIA, LJUBLJANA, May 18. 1992 STA
Ljubljana, 18 May - SLOVENEC: FOLLOWING THE PATH - Janez Vuk of the daily Slovenec writes that Saturday's congress of the Slovenian Christian Democratic Party proved that it is the only party in Slovenia which does not have an identity crises. Not even the fall of Peterle's government shaken them, since they accepted it as another confirmation of the correctness of their chosen path. The most radical changes the congress brought about were organizational changes. From now on committees covering different subjects, or fractions, will independently shape policies on different fields thus re-enforcing the principle of democracy within the party. But, Vuk believes, such an organizational structure hides many predicaments. It will demand of its members a high level of political culture, constructive dialogue and tolerance, in which Slovenian political parties have proven rather poor in the past.
