PRESS REVIEW FROM SLOVENIA, MAY 22, 1992, Ljubljana (STA)
Ljubljana, 22 May - THE SLOVENEC: INCORPORATING SLOVENIA IN THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATIONAL PROCESSES - The gates to free trade would open wide for Slovenia with the ratification of an agreement on cooperation with the EFTA, which will be the next step in regulating relations between Slovenia and the seven countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Switzerland and Austria), wrote Tomaž Gašperlin. Slovenia, with its economy geared to exports, has a great advantage over its eastern neighbours, while signing an agreement on free trade with the EFTA would give us access to the European market without limits being placed on quantity and without quotas and customs. Such an agreement would, wrote the author, also knock some sense into those Slovenian companies which have become almost presumptuous and which are starting to gain a monopoly, now that there is no more competition from the former southern Yugoslav republics.
