NATO Confirms Expansion of ISAF to Eastern Afghanistan

Portorož, 28 September - NATO defence ministers have confirmed the expansion of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan to the east of the country by putting some 12,000 US soldiers involved in the coalition Operation Enduring Freedom under ISAF control. The deployment in the south will start soon, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told the press after the meeting on Thursday, labelling the decision as "very important".
