Review of Events and International Activities of Slovenia in the Week from December 2 to 9
Ljubljana, 9 December - The past week ended with local elections, at which 1.52 million Slovene electors in 3,700 polling stations chose the mayors of their new municipalities in the first round of elections, and the councillors to the new municipal and city councils. Candidates for mayors of 90 municipalities, who were not elected this Sunday, will run in the second round on December 18. Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Drnovšek attended the two-day summit of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) in Budapest. The Association of Free Trade Unions of Slovenia (ZSSS) held its second congress, titled "United and Consistent in the Struggle for Workers' Rights". The Slovene parliament held a two-day extraordinary session, at which it passed the budget memorandum for 1995, and economic policy in the next year.
