Ljubljana, 17 June - SLOVENEC: DEAF TO NOW, HE HAS SPOKEN - The President of the Slovenian Assembly warned in a dramatic tone that we are heading towards a situation that would mean "legal suicide," writes Janez Vuk. Similar warnings given some time ago by certain Demos parties in connection with disrespect for parliamentary procedure on the side of the Chamber of Associated Labor were disregarded at the time by Dr. Bučar. Now that the House of Communes has repeated the procedural "hoax" and not included on its daily agenda the newest proposal of the Law on Ownership, Bučar is issuing statements. The double standard which Dr. Bučar uses for the same matter with different parties is obvious. The question arises for the author: what now when we find ourselves literally in a situation of self-blockade in the Assembly? It is certain that calling for responsibility only on one side will not be fruitful. Both sides have to become more serious. First the Chamber of Associated Labor must correct its mistake. The representatives of the Chamber of Associated Labor should recognize that in not wanting to discuss and come to a decision on the earlier proposal of the Law on Ownership they actually began to undermine democracy itself. The essence of democracy lies in the respect of rules, concludes Janez Vuk, and he believes that in the future Dr. Bučar will have to evaluate the supporting and opposition camps with the same standards, as untangling the Assembly's knot to a large degree depends on that.
