LJUBLJANA - The cabinet is to hold the regular weekly session, discussing the amendments to the return of investments in the public telecommunications network act and the changes to a regulation on the organisation, equipment and training of protection, rescue and aid forces, which also deals with helicopter air rescue service. LJUBLJANA - The leadership of the largest opposition party is set to hold an in-camera meeting in the afternoon to discuss preparations for a congress of Liberal Democrats (LDS), to be held later this month. The head of the LDS Council Anton Anderlic is expected to make a statement at 7 PM.
LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary Defence Committee is to convene an emergency session at 9 AM to debate a controversial arms deal in which the Defence Ministry purchased 135 Patria 8x8 armoured personnel carriers for EUR 278m last December. The Finnish company was selected in June over the home supplier Sistemska tehnika. The deputies are set to examine the selection procedure as well as the financial aspects of the deal.
LJUBLJANA - A parliamentary commission tasked with probing the work of the state prosecution is to convene at 1 PM to question Former President Milan Kucan, who was accused by Koper Mayor Boris Popovic of being the mastermind behind his 2003 arrest and numerous criminal charges against him.
LJUBLJANA - Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Jure Zupan and State Secretary Dusan Lesjak are to meet at 9 AM a German Education and Research Ministry delegation, headed by State Secretary Frieder Meyer-Krahmer, to discuss the 18-month EU presidency plan in science, technology and higher education.
LJUBLJANA - Logistics group Viator&Vektor is to unveil its plans for 2007 at a press conference scheduled for 9 AM.
SLOVENJ GRADEC - Car seat manufacturer Prevent Global is to speak about its 2006 business results and plans for 2007 at a press conference scheduled for 9 AM.
LJUBLJANA - The results of a survey on the popularity of internet sites in Slovenia, conducted by the Aragon research and planning company, will be presented to the press at 1:30 PM.
LJUBLJANA - Women's magazine Jana will declare the winner of the Woman of the Year award at a special ceremony scheduled for 5 PM. Prior to the event, the nominees will attend receptions hosted separately by Speaker of Parliament France Cukjati and Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic. (STA/PHOTO)
LJUBLJANA - A series of film screenings, entitled "Nasmejana Evropa" (Laughing Europe), will begin in art cinema Kinodvor with "Absolut Warhola" by German-Polish director Stanislaw Mucha. The event is organised by the German cultural institute Goethe Institut.
