Slovenian World Congress Committee for Extended Deadline on Citizenship

Ljubljana, 23 June - The Parliamentary Committee on the Slovenian World Congress supported a proposal to change the Law on Citizenship changing, among other things, the deadline for receipt of citizenship, at its session today. The proposal would move the deadline to June 1993 and thus allow Slovenians around the world to claim their right to citizenship. Many were not able to do this to now, as Slovenia only opened diplomatic offices this year and the deadline for citizenship applications was 25 June, 1992. This, due to the demands of the application process, was not feasible.
