BRUSSELS, Belgium - Prime Minister Janez Jansa is to attend the final day of the EU summit that is focusing on energy and environment. He is expected to speak to the press at 1 PM. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - The National Assembly is to vote at a session starting at 10 AM on the appointment of Andrej Rant as the governor of Banka Slovenije, the central bank. Rant's nomination is opposed by the bulk of the coalition, which is why he is not expected to win the vote. The parliament is also to decide on the appointment of two members to the programming council of the public broadcaster RTV Slovenija. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs is to pay a visit to Slovenia at the invitation of Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak. While the pair are to hold a press conference at 12:30 PM, Piebalgs is also to attend a panel on the new EU energy strategy at 3 PM, and meet the Environment and Spatial Planning Minister Janez Podobnik. LJUBLJANA - The National Statistics Office is to hold a press conference at 10:30 AM to present the latest social and economic indicators, preliminary economic growth figures for 2006, and statistics on birth and family names. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - Former members of the opposition Liberal Democrats (LDS) Matej Lahovnik, Cveta Zalokar Orazem and Pavel Gantar, who are now part of a deputy group of independents, are to present to the press at 10 AM an initiative for a new political party. (STA/PHOTO)
LJUBLJANA - Social partners are to continue talks on the proposed amendments to the employment relationship act. Labour, the Family and Social Affairs Minister Marjeta Cotman is expected to speak to the press at noon.
LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian government and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) are to sign the agreement on the accession of Slovenia to the Convention for the Establishment of EUMETSAT; at 10 AM.
BELGRADE, Serbia - Slovenia's largest banking group, NLB, and its Serbian members are to hold a press conference at noon to present plans for the Serbian market in 2007.
LJUBLJANA - The Culture Ministry is to sign at noon a contract with the two companies chosen to carry out the first phase of renovation works on the Ljubljana Opera and Ballet building.
