OVERVIEW OF THE SLOVENIAN PRESS

Ljubljana, 27 June - DELO: WALKING BETWEEN TOES - Our most recent letter to the participants of the Lisbon Summit Conference of the EC, in which we cautiously offer preparation to, the possibility of and arguments for closer cooperation, is the logical continuation of the Brioni Conference with the European Three. For that reason, writes Damijan Slabe in Theme of the Day, we can remain without a doubt that the European Community will sooner or later find a way to use it to its own benefit. Until that time - as after the Brioni moratorium - we have a few moments to ask ourselves again why Slovenians, who know how to negotiate far-reaching compromises in the European Parliament with polish and patience, wave the battle-axe wildly at home as if the upcoming elections were not about the same "European" issue. The author concludes that if we will be invited to join Europe soon, we will have to learn to step between the opponent's toes tactfully and diplomatically at home, too.
