PRESS REVIEW FROM SLOVENIA

Ljubljana, 1 July - DELO: THE STRIKE BOOMERANG - According to Marjeta Šoštarič's comments on the railway strike, it is a fact that the railway employees are quite well off since the railway is funded by the national budget and the wages are, despite constant losses, approximately 30% higher than the average in other branches of the economy. In addition, they have already been given a regular holiday bonus equal to a guaranteed monthly personal income. Their demands for the second part of the bonus might be understandable in different circumstances, with regard to the given promise. But a company which is taking advantage of its monopolistic position in the market has to be told once and for all to manage its assets in a better way. One cannot play with the money of taxpayers and of those who have to pay their share to the state despite an unenviable economic position. It is utterly egoistic to take something out of the budget bag without putting something in and to demand imaginary rights, to the detriment of somebody else who is also entitled to these rights but cannot ask for them due to an emptied budget.
