Schedule of Events for Wednesday, 11 April

Ljubljana, 10 April - Below is a schedule of events for Wednesday, 11 April:

MARIBOR - The government is to visit Podravje as part of its tour of statistical regions. The cabinet is first due to get together for a working meeting at 9:30 AM, whereupon ministers will follow individual programmes. In the afternoon (4:30 PM), Prime Minister Janez Jansa is to hold a joint press conference with Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak, Education and Sport Minister Milan Zver and Local Self-government and Regional Development Minister Ivan Zagar. The visit will wrap up with a meeting with the mayors, business executives and officials from the region (5:30 PM), followed by a charity game of futsal against the team of local political and business figures.

MARIBOR - As part of the government visit of Podravje, Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak is to inaugurate at 12:15 PM a joint management centre of power utility HSE and its subsidiary Dravske elektrarne Maribor, which manages the chain of hydro plants on the Drava. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The STA is to release a backgrounder ahead of Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel's visit to Argentina. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The parliament's Committee on Domestic Policy, Public Administration and Justice is to convene a session at 9 AM debate the bill on election and referendum campaigns.

LJUBLJANA - Chair of the parliamentary EU Affairs committee Anton Kokalj is to receive at 10:50 AM the French Secretary General for European Affairs and adviser to the French prime minister on European affairs, Pascale Andreani.

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary friendship group with China, headed by MP Zmago Jelincic, is to meet at 11 AM the visiting delegation of the Commission for Foreign Affairs of the Chinese People's Congress, headed by Jiang Enzhu.

LJUBLJANA - The opposition Social Democrats (SD) and Liberal Democracy (LDS) as well as independent lawmaker Slavko Gaber are to comment on the government's proposal for education reform at a press conference scheduled for 11 AM.

LJUBLJANA - The general assembly of the Health Insurance Institute (ZZZS) is to debate the financial report for 2006 at a session scheduled to begin at 10 AM.

MARIBOR - Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje and Koper will present their candidacies for the 2012 European Capital of Culture at an event scheduled at 11 AM.
