The 40th International Summer Festival begins
Ljubljana, 19 July - The jubilee 40th International Summer Festival began in the Križanke theatre in Ljubljana last night. The International Summer Festival, which was declared officially open at this year's opening ceremony by Slovenia's President Milan Kučan, has, during the past four decades, hosted numerous famous Slovenian and foreign performers. The audience was also greeted by Chairman of the European Association of Festivals, Frans de Ruiter, who celebrated his 40th birthday this year, too.
The highlight of the evening was the performance given by the famous Slovenian mezzo-soprano, Marjana Lipovšek, who was recently awarded the highest acknowledgement for a solo singer by the Munich Bavarian State Opera - the title of chamber singer.
