Večer: The Outlook for August

Ljubljana, 1 August - PRESS/SLOVENIA/VEČER
August the 1st has always been a reliable indicator of the size of the "tourist harvest" to be expected in these parts during the summer season, as it is the first day of the "ferragosto," (a major holiday in Italy and the Slovenian coastal regions) and optimists in Slovenia have announced that this month will bring a large increase in the number of foreign guests venturing across our border this year. And just in case the predicted flood of sun-seekers defying their fear of the Balkan war does come, and is additionally swollen by tourists from Germany, the best thing for the workers in the tourist industry throughout Slovenia to do would be to stop complaining, roll up their sleeves and get to work, writes Milan Golob in the morning edition of Večer.
