The Executive Secretary of the U.N Economic Council for Europe is Satisfied with Slovenia's Position

Ljubljana, 18 November - The Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Council for Europe, Mr. Gerald Hinteregger, is in Ljubljana at the invitation of the Slovene government to acquaint himself with the situation in Slovenia. Mr. Hinteregger stated that the aim of his visit was to achieve the following: to discuss areas of common interests, and to seek opportunities for possible closer cooperation between the Slovenian goverment and the European Economic Council for Europe namely in two areas - the council's contribution to Slovenia, and Slovenia's assistance in the field of the environment, economy, transport, energy, and other areas. Mr. Hinteregger emphasised that Slovenia should use the commission's extensive experience and expertise in the present difficult transition period toward an open market economy.Dr. Rupel mentioned that Slovenia was assured of cooperation regarding assistance in the feasibility studies in the construction of the highway between Budapest and Trieste through Slovenia. He also talked about the suggestion of the Ministry of Energy to organise an international meeting on energy efficiency to the year 2000.
