Delo: Another Vance

Ljubljana, 15 February - The American public in general greets the cautious approach by Washington to the Bosnian melting pot and believes that the USA has done the right thing by taking the initiative in the peace talks, says Delo's correspondent in the USA.
The positive thing is that the USA has shifted away from the Bush policy of indecisive fidgeting and empty rhetoric and has decided to join actively in the negotiations, perhaps even to lead them from now on. Everything else is old, says Mitja Meršol. Clinton is, as a matter of fact, strongly disassociating himself from his pre-election predictions and promises and is signing up to the "cartography" that he used to criticise not so long ago. The US president resorted to the tried and tested method of tactical negotiations, which, in the Balkans example, has proved not to be the most successful, but the safest - for the Americans.
