WEEKLY REVIEW 6 - 13 FEBRUARY 1993

Ljubljana, 15 February - On the eve of the Slovenian cultural holiday of 8 February, two Prešeren awards and six awards from the Prešeren Fund were presented at the main Slovenian cultural event. Eight artists received the highest recognition of the Republic of Slovenia for their achievements in art. The Prešeren awards were first presented in 1974, since when 198 artists have received the Prešeren award and 365 artists have been given Prešeren Fund awards. This year 21 nominations were received for the Prešeren award and 51 for the Fund awards. The awards were presented by the Prešeren Fund based at the Ministry of Culture, headed by a 15-member Administrative Board, and were nominated by the National Assembly at the proposal of the government.
