Pope John Paul II.: The Church has no political ambitions

Ljubljana, 20 February - In his welcoming speech, Pope John Paul II expressed his delight at the visit of the President of the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovenian delegation, which included also the Slovenian Foreign Minister Lojze Peterle, not only because this is the first visit of the free and sovereign Republic of Slovenia to the Holy See, but also because this confirms ancient ties between the Slovenian people and the Catholic Church.
