Delo: Negotiations begin
Ljubljana, 23 February - The first and long-awaited talks between the Slovenian and Italian commissions for updating the agreements and contracts on arranging relations between the two neighbouring countries got underway at Strmol castle, writes Lojze Kante in today's edition of Delo.
Slovenia and Italy cannot restrict the negotiations solely to short-term bilateral interests, but must face up to their position in central Europe and in the wider area. This means they must accept the economic, cultural and other achievements of this environment and, if possible, surpass them. In this, the nationalist tendencies of the stronger ruling over the weaker or the majority over the minority should not prevail, concludes Lojze Kante.
