Daily Slovenec on the Alpine Convention Conference
Ljubljana, 24 March - PRESS/SLOVENIA/ALPS
Four years after the second international conference on the protection of the Alps when the Alpine Convention was adopted, and two years after Slovenia became a signatory of the Convention, Slovene Parliament on Wednesday ratified the Convention. Without this final "blessing" Slovenia would have no effect for Slovenia, and Slovenia would then not preside for two years over the Alpine Conference Standing Committee and at the first session of the Committee which began on Thursday in Ljubljana. This ratification, coming two minutes to midnight, points to the unseriousness of Slovene policy in regards to the protection of the Alps, writes the Ljubljana daily Slovenec.
