Review of the Slovenian Press

Ljubljana, 15 June - Monday's protests by farmers in Prekmurje were the lead story in many of today's Slovenian newspapers, as can be seen from the headlines: "Farmers at the barricades" (Večer), "Testing nerves with tractors" (Dnevnik), "Pomurje farmers block the roads to the border crossing" (Delo), "Farmers will not give up their demands" (Republika) and "Farmers block off border crossings" (Slovenec). Most of the commentaries are dedicated to this theme. The main item of domestic news was the decision by the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia to question the constitutionality of Article 29 of the amended Law on Privatisation, while the main topics in foreign politics are the imminent fall of Goražde in B-H and the Conference on Human Rights in Vienna. The press noted the meeting between the Slovene and Hungarian Presidents, Kučan and G˘ncz, in Budapest.
