President Rebuffs Criticism of Disputed Decoration

Ljubljana, 15 December - President Danilo Tuerk defended Tuesday his decision to award a former head of the communist secret police for his role in a key 1989 police operation, labeling the opposition's reactions "emotional and harsh" and "lacking a conciliatory tone".
