Ljubljana, 12 August - Presenting the realization of the power balance in the first six months of 1995, State Secretary to the Ministry of Economy Boris Sovič Thursday said that the final consumption of energy in the first half of this year increased by 9.6 percent. The final consumption of energy in industry in the first 6 months of this year increased according to Sovič by 3.7 percent, in traffic by 10.7 percent, and in households by 14.7 percent. "Taking into account the fact that the half year increase of physical volume of manufactured goods is 5.4 percent and exceeds the increase of the energy consumption, Slovenia can contended with developed European countries in this respect," said Sovič. In the structure of energy consumption, households account for 36.7 percent, industry for 33.8 percent, and traffic 29.6 percent. The consumption of liquid fuel is still on increase (50.4 percent), electricity (20.2 percent), while the share of solid fuel in on decrease (9.8 percent) on the expense of liquid fuel. Sovič also told that this year 6 months data on primary energy show that energy dependence of Slovenia is still increasing, since with the exception of hydro energy and timber, Slovenia has to import all other sources. Slovenia will thus retain its stabile supply of energy. The largest energy consumer is industry (52.8 percent), while the smallest is traffic (1.7 percent), with the households taking up 27.1 percent of electricity and small-size companies 18.3 percent. In the first 6 months of this year, the thermal power plants produced 37 percent of power, the Krško nuclear plant 33.9 percent and hydro power plants 29.1 percent.
