Press Review from Slovenia
Ljubljana, 24 June - Today's dailies, under headings such as: Dangerous Reminiscences About Former Yugoslavia (Delo), Slovenia Participates in Formation of Peace in Europe (Dnevnik), There is no Kučan Lobby (Večer), Offensive Surmises (Republika), covered the press conference given by President Milan Kučan to mark the second anniversary of Slovene independence. The central commentaries of today's papers also revolve around this topic, and that of the open letter addressed to Milan Kučan by six influential politicians who were particularly active during Slovenia's bid for independence. Echoes of other prominent events in domestic politics can also still be detected in commentaries on the continuation of the parliamentary session, at which the governing parties and the opposition found a compromise regarding the interpellation of the policy and actions of Minister of Justice Miha Kozinc. The events from abroad in the forefront today include the visit of Slovenia's Foreign Minister Peterle to Russia, and the Peace Conference on Bosnia and Herzegovina currently in progress in Geneva.
