Worsening Economic Situation of Carinthian Slovenes

Independence of Slovenia, the loss of the former joint Yugoslav market and restricted aid of Slovenia resulted in worsening of economical situation of Carinthian Slovenes. In the 80s, in their settlement region in Austria round 20 firms were operating with Slovene or mixed capital, which employed over 1,000 people. At least 600 workers have since lost their working posts, with only companies Elan Fuerniz and Alpetour from Bleiburg being successful.
