lovenia Celebrates Day Of Freedom Of Press

Ljubljana, 3 May - FREEDOM/PRESS/UNESCO/SLOVENIA
In 1993 Unesco declared 3 May a world day of freedom of press, and the same year this was confirmed also by the General Assembly of The United Nations. At the time, International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) issued a press release saying freedom of speech as a fundamental human right can only be guaranteed by pluralism of the media in society. On the occasion of the day of freedom of press, the Journalists' Trade Union of Slovenia stressed in its communique that most countries of the world do not even guarantee this fundamental right to their journalists and citizens.
