40 Years of Šoštanj Steam Plant
Ljubljana, 15 May - ŠOŠTANJ/STEAM/PLANT/ANNIVERSARY
The Šoštanj steam plant generated first kilowatt hours of electric power four decades ago, more precisely on 16 May 1956, the plant reported ahead of the anniversary on Thursday. The event was an introduction to the period of accelerated construction of new production facilities, which came to an end in 1977, when the largest steam plant in Slovenia was built. From the time it begun with its operation 40 years ago, the steam plant has generated over 89 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, providing for 35 percent of electric power consumption in Slovenia.
