President Borut Pahor addressed the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, talking about peace, climate change and multilateralism. He underlined that Slovenia was well-placed to be a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2024-2025.

President Borut Pahor will recall Tone Kajzer, Slovenia's ambassador to the US, after being urged to do so by the government due to an internal cable that Kajzer leaked to opposition SDS leader Janez Janša. The ambassador is expected to return to Ljubljana by the end of the month but will remain with the Foreign Ministry.

Slovenia has received this week 100,800 doses of the Pfizer vaccine adapted to the original coronavirus variant and the BA.4 and BA.5 sub-lineages of the Omicron variant, the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) has told the STA. BA.5 is currently the prevalent sub-variant in Slovenia.

She stressed she was joining the race without the burden of party membership, past or present, and with more than 25 years of experience in the fight for human rights, and the rule of law.

Anže Logar, an MP for the opposition Democrats (SDS) and former foreign minister, filed his candidacy for the 23 October presidential election on Wednesday. He filed it with the support of 5,000 voter signatures, which makes him an independent candidate, while his bid was also endorsed by the SDS.
