Number of Asylum Seekers Dropping Since 2005

Ljubljana, 7 September - The number of applications for international protection in Slovenia peaked in 2000 with a refugee wave from Iran, and has been dropping since 2005. The Interior Ministry says the reasons for the decline are better EU border control and quicker asylum procedures. A majority of asylum seekers in Slovenia are men.
