Slovenian Food Available at Legendary Berlin Dept Store

Berlin, 7 September - Some of Slovenia's best food products will be featured at one of Europe's biggest department stores, as nearly a dozen items will be promoted in the popular deli of the KaDeWe store in Berlin for the next two weeks. Berliners will be able to enjoy Slovenian honey, salt, pumpkin seed oil, the Kranjska sausage and wines.

The Slovenian embassy in Berlin said in a press release on Monday that the KaDeWe deli, famous for its selection of foods from around the world, is holding Slovenian Days until 19 September.

"Last year, Slovenia's trade with Germany surpassed for the first time ever EUR 10bn. There is however still a lot of potential, especially in foods and quality wines," Ambassador Marta Kos Marko said.

"As production quantities of our producers are rather small for the German market, we have focused on gourmet products," she added.

Promotional stalls will feature Lucifer chocolates, liqueurs and chocolates by Berryshka, fruit juices by Smodin, oils by Gea, salt from Piranske soline salt pans, as well as honey and honey products by Božnar and Perger 1757.

Moreover, the promotion also features wines by Goriška Brda, Vipava 1894 and Radgonske gorice and cured meats by Celjske mesnine.

Based on the success of the sales during the promotion campaign, the products might become part of the department store's regular stock.

The idea for the KaDeWe campaign came from the Slovenian Embassy in Berlin and was organised in cooperation with the SPIRIT agency for promotion of tourism and investments.

SPIRIT boss Gorazd Mihelič said that promotion campaigns of Slovenian food products have been organised earlier this year in the Spar grocery stores across Austria and a similar campaign is planned for Italy.
