Italian "Optanti" Not Eligible for Compensation Under Special 1996 Law
Ljubljana, 1 October - Questions were raised in recent days about the eligibility of optanti, Italians who decided to leave Yugoslavia after WWII, for compensation under a 1996 Slovenian law on the redressing of injustices of the Communist regime. The Justice Ministry says there is a difference between them and refugees who fled Communist persecution.
