Slovenia in volleyball semis after surprise win over Poland
Sofia, 14 October - Slovenia are on medal course at the European Volleyball Championship after a surprise win against reigning world champions Poland on Wednesday.
Slovenia defeated Poland 3:2 in the quarter finals in what is its second upset in as many days following the win against volleyball powerhouse Netherlands.
Having taken a 2:0 lead, Slovenia was close to clinching the win in the third set, but Poland powered through.
In the fourth set Poland were more convincing, but in the decisive final set Slovenia picked up the pace again.
The semi-final placement is the biggest success for Slovenian volleyball ever. Slovenia will face either Russia or Italy on Saturday.
