OLYMPICS: Slovenian flag raised in Olympic Village

Rio de Janeiro, 5 August - The Slovenian flag was raised in the Olympic Village in Rio de Janiero on Thursday evening. The short ceremony was attended by Slovenian athletes and a number of guests, including Slovenian Sport Minister Maja Makovec Brenčič, the president of Slovenian Olympic Committee Bogdan Gabrovec and his predecessor Janez Kocijančič.

The Slovenian flag was raised in the same group as the American one and the ceremony was accompanied by a short dance programme.

The event was followed by a Slovenian meeting, where the minister wished all the best to the competitors and read a letter by Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar.

Iztok Čop, the leader of the Olympic delegation and the best summer Olympian of independent Slovenia, wished the athletes a lot of success as well.
