Triathlon enthusiasts go to Bohinj
Bohinj/Kranj, 24 August - Recreation enthusiasts will be able to test themselves this week in a gruelling triathlon starting on Lake Bohinj or a stage bicycle race which invites mateur cyclists to feel the thrill of great races like Tour de France.
The 30th Ironman Triathlon consists of eight kilometres of canoeing on Lake Bohinj, 16 kilometres of mountain biking and an 8-kilometre run.
Due to safety and environmental concerns, the number of competitors is limited to 150 individuals who will complete the entire race and 100 for relay teams.
The Rekreatur stage race will meanwhile start and finish in the city of Kranj (NE), taking the competing groups of four to eight cyclists to Radovljica, Jesenice and Tržič between Thursday and Sunday.
"If you would like to be in good company and if you are serious about cycling and your are interested in the yet undiscovered beauty of the countryside and its residents, then Rekreatur is the right thing for you," the organisers said.
A somewhat less demanding triathlon will meanwhile take place in the Kodeljevo sports park in Ljubljana on Sunday.
Sponsored by telecoms operator Telemach, the 2nd Ljubljana Triathlon this year will bring also a challenge for the youngest competitors (born in 2009 or younger).
An off-road running competition will take place as part of the Špas na vas festival of culinary art, music and games in Javoršica near Moravče in central Slovenia.
The Špas-n-tek event is divided into a 6.5-km run (Saturday) and a 10-km run (Sunday) taking the competitors across meadows, forests and mountain paths, concluding with a 35-metre slope of a ski jumping hill.
