Weekly Review of Events in Slovenia from 2 to 9 August 1993
Ljubljana, 9 August - The first week of the summer recess of the Slovenian National Assembly has passed. The investigation into the arms case regarding the weapons discovered at Maribor Airport before the summer recess is running smoothly, said Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Bizjak at the beginning of the week. Bizjak presented to the general public and experts a booklet by Nada Končina, the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia with Notes. Minister of Defence, Janez Janša, presented the draft Law on Defence, adopted by the Government at its last July session, and gave some explanations on the accident, when a guard in the Rakek military barracks was killed by an anti-infantry mine. He mentioned the possibility that the document on mine clearing of military barracks by the former Yugoslav National Army was incorrect or that the mine was planted later on. Gyula Kiss, the Hungarian Minister of Labour, visited Slovenia. Kiss and Jožica Puhar, the Slovenian Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, discussed the finalisation of an agreement between the two ministries. The Government raised wages of those employed by the Slovenian railways and introduced a special tax on slot-machines.
