Praise for Poklukar as majority pledge to support him for health minister

Most of the deputy factions lavished praise on Janez Poklukar's work as hospital manager so far as they pledged to support him for health minister in the vote in parliament later on Tuesday. Only two centre-left factions explicitly announced they would vote against his appointment, but even those held nothing against him.

Constitutional Court stays retirement provisions of stimulus legislation

The Constitutional Court has stayed the implementation of provisions of the seventh economic stimulus law under which employers may unilaterally and without grounds terminate the employment contract when a worker meets old-age retirement criteria. The constitutional review was initiated by trade unions.

Uptick in daily case count week-on-week and 7-day average

Slovenia reported 899 new coronavirus cases from 4,369 PCR tests on Monday in what is an increase compared to a week ago when a similar total of tests was conducted. Eight Covid-19 patients died. The 7-day average of new daily cases grew from 744 to 767 in daily comparison, show fresh government data.

Slovenia to get new airline, aviation portal says

A new airline named SouthEast Airlines is emerging in Slovenia, web aviation portal Sierra5 reported on Tuesday, adding that the airline will initially provide mainly charter flights using Airbus A320 fleet. At first, SouthEast Airlines is to focus on EU markets with the first licensed commercial flight planned for early June.

MPs to vote on health minister candidate today

The National Assembly will hold an emergency session on Tuesday to vote on the appointment of Janez Poklukar, the director of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana (UKC Ljubljana), for health minister after he was backed in a 10:4 vote by the parliamentary Health Committee.
