Trade Unions Announce a Token Strike
Ljubljana, 19 October - TOPIC/WEEK
The employers' cancellation of the General Collective Agreement for Economy (SKPG) end-September provoked severe criticism among trade unions. All four representative trade unions - Union of Free Trade Unions of Slovenia (ZSSS), Independence-KNSS, Confederation of Trade Unions of Slovenia (KSS) Pergam and Confederation of Trade Unions (KS 90), at the same time co-signatories of the SKPG, signed this week a joint statement that they will keep fighting for the rights of workers; they estimated the cancellation of SKPG and some branch collective agreements was an attempt to retire from the social partnership and social agreement. Trade unions also oppose to the reduction of material and social rights of workers, which might be a consequence of the SKPG's cancellation. ZSSS, KSS Pergam, and KS 90 announced for next Thursday, 24 October, a general two-hour token strike. Representatives of the four trade unions are to meet at the beginning of the week to discuss further cooperation.
