Cyclists in for interesting recreational event
Ljubljana, 7 June - Recreational enthusiasts will get an opportunity this week to attend the most massive amateur cycling race in the country and an interesting combination of beer drinking and running.
The Franja marathon, starting in Ljubljana's BTC shopping district, will feature the main, 156-km race on Sunday.
The main event will be preceded by a 22-km and a 44-km time trials on Friday and a shorter, 97-km marathon, on Saturday, when a 1,200-metre race for children is also held.
The organisers expect more than 8,000 participants to join the event, which will feature an accompanying programme, including a presentation of cycling products and services.
Those who like to combine beer drinking with running are invited to the 2nd Savinjska Beer Mile event in Šempeter v Savinjski dolini on Saturday.
The participants will run on a standard 400-metre running track, and will have to drink a bottle of beer after completing each lap.
