Slovenian keeper Oblak nominated for the Ballon d'Or
Paris, 9 October - Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak, a member of Atletico Madrid, has been shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or (Golden Ball), one of the most prestigious awards for football players in the world.
He is among the 15 nominees whose names were released on Monday by French football magazine France Fotoball, which has been conferring the award since 1956. Another 15 candidates are to be released later today.
Other nominees include stars such as Neymar (PSG), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Luis Suarez (Barcelona), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern) and Paul Dybala (Juventus).
Oblak has been playing for Atletico since 2014 and regularly appears among players eyed by major European clubs.
He has previously been named to the best team of Europe's top club football competition, the Champions League, and ranks as the most successful goalkeeper in the 113-year-long history of the Madrid Atletico football club.
