Slovene Press about the Sixth Anniversary of the Plebiscite

Ljubljana, 27 December - Six years after the plebiscite by which large majority of Slovenes decided for an independent state, the daily Delo ponders Friday about what was accomplished in the period. Allowing for a relatively low price of our decision to escape the Yugoslav social-political clasp, the transition period has been difficult enough even in peace. We cannot talk about normal transition to the rule of law and social state. If a society and the individuals in it want to shake off stiff as well as para-state organization and to give new impetus to the outmoded state of mind, then they have to give more chances to a new and better one. Even in accessing the European Union and NATO, the autonomous and independent state will have to weigh rights and duties well, the Delo states.
