Weekly Review of Slovene Economy from 29 December through 4 January

Ljubljana, 4 January - An interim agreement between Slovenia and the EU came into effect on 1 January 1997, constituting the trade and economy part of the associate membership of Slovenia in the EU. The agreement stipulates the fields of opening the internal market and the means of joining the common European area with the defined dynamic. In the field of export, it brings in a halved number of the groups of products the import tariffs of which will be cancelled wholly, and a 20-percent increase of export quota until the final abolition in the year 2000. In the field of import, gradual abolition of import tariffs for selected groups of products until the final cancellation in the year 2000 is stipulated.
