Open air theatre Križanke opens after renovation

Ljubljana, 10 August - The Ljubljana open air theatre Križanke will welcome visitors after renovation this month, the Ljubljana Municipality said on Friday. The facelift of the auditorium was to be concluded a few months ago but was delayed because of surprise archaeological finds.

The EUR 2.4m renovation started in February and was conducted by Makro 5 Gradnje.

As part of the project, headed by the Ljubljana Municipality and Festival Ljubljana, Križanke's projection cabin was fully renovated, the space for the orchestra was expanded and a new system for lifting the stage podium was installed.

The renovation of the movable roof over the venue is yet to be concluded due to complications with project documents.

According to Ljubljana Festival director Darko Brlek, the new roof will have electronic elements and will automatically close in case of bad weather.

The theatre's renovation was launched after a snow storm damaged the movable roof in April 2016.

The first event Križanke will host after renovation will be musical Vesna on 24 August. All other events as part of the 66th Ljubljana Fetsival will be held as scheduled.
