Izola hosts diplomats' regatta
Izola, 8 September - The coastal town of Izola will host on Saturday the 16th annual Diplomats' Regatta, which is expected to bring together several hundred diplomats, politicians and executives.
Organised by the Veter Sailing Club and the Foreign Ministry, the regatta is an opportunity for diplomats to socialize in a laid-back setting while competing.
It is one of several sporting events in Slovenia where diplomats can compete against each other and this year diplomats from 46 countries have registered, including 34 ambassadors and 11 consuls.
Every year the regatta attracts a crowd of several thousand people.
The idea to organise it dates back to 2002, when Australian Honorary Consul Viktor Baraga and Veter Sailing Club boss Branko Auguštin proposed organising a regatta to bring together diplomats accredited to Slovenia.
The first regatta was held in 2003.
