Mountain huts see drop in guests, albeit more Slovenians visiting this year

The coronavirus pandemic has caused the number of visitors in mountain huts plummet by 25%, while some huts high in the mountains have seen their visitor numbers drop by as much as 50%, as significantly fewer foreigners are hiking in Slovenia this year. However, the number of Slovenians staying at the huts has increased.

Positive day on stock market

The SBI TOP index of blue chips on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange closed 1.76% higher at 861.58 points on Tuesday, as practically all main blue chips were in the black. Port operator Luka Koper was one of the biggest winners, gaining over 3% on the day when total turnover reached nearly EUR 2.2 million, half of which with pharma company Krka.

Value of redeemed vouchers rises to EUR 50m, but 76% still unused

Slovenians have used EUR 49,71 million worth of tourism vouchers between 19 June and 9 August, which is 14% of the amount made available as part of the government's stimulus scheme, in place until the end of the year. The coast, mountains and spas have been the primary beneficiaries, while cities are continuing to struggle.

Hisense management and unions call on workers to follow coronavirus measures

After coronavirus was reportedly confirmed among employees of Hisense in Velenje a month ago, Hisense Europe and in-house trade unions in its facilities in Slovenia, Serbia and the Czech Republic made a joint appeal to employees to follow closely the required Covid-19 safety measures both at work and in their spare time.

Fuel prices at 1 euro for more than four months

Although the global oil market remains volatile due to the coronavirus, administered fuels prices in Slovenia will remain at the one euro mark after the government slightly raised excise duties on Monday.

Stock market in the black

The SBI TOP index of blue chips on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange closed 0.78% higher at 846.64 points on Monday. All main blue chips were in the black. The issue of pharma company Krka (+1.39% to EUR 78.80) contributed the most, EUR 509,500, to the total daily turnover of EUR 842,950.
