Exchange Rates of Foreign Currencies Mostly Stable in 1997

Exchange rates of foreign currencies have been mostly stable in the first months of 1997. The only exception is the US dollar whose value has constantly increasing both in the United States and on international markets. At home, the dollar rose to DM 1.7 and SIT 155.2 in February, after revolving around DM 1.5 throughout the year, with the German mark (DM) worth SIT 89.97 in average. This means an 8.8 percent nominal increase and an 0.8 percent real increase over 1995.
