More Optimism in Business Expectations?

Similarly as in other countries' conjunctural tests, the companies' business expectations were significantly more optimistic in the previous month than in the past year, the opinion poll of the Chamber of Economy (GZS) revealed. The quarterly March opinion poll referring to three- and six-month forecasts shows such optimism of the leading economists of the industry and trade companies as in conjuncturally most successful years 1994 and 1995. However, it was possible to detect the first signals of the return of optimism as early as in opinion polls carried out in September last year, further slight improvement of the situation having followed at the end of 1996.
