About 2000 Fattened Cattle Waiting for Slaughter

Slovene cattle breeders have been unable to sell their fattened cattle for slaughter for several months although domestic production covers only 80 percent of market requirements for beef, Cattle Breeders Association of Slovenia told Tuesday.*** The surplus, that currently amounts to about 2000 heads of cattle, is mainly due to uncontrolled imports of lower-quality meat and meat products, told the breeders, also setting out unfair competition in sales of milk and milk products as imported goods are often cheaper due to subsidized import.
