President appeals for solidarity in face of coronavirus threat
Ljubljana, 12 March - President Borut Pahor made an appeal for solidarity in his first statement related to the coronavirus epidemic on Thursday. He urged Slovenians to "preserve a sense of community" and help each other.
"The way to help each other is to care for one another, not least by being as humanely friendly as possible in all circumstances," he said in a video address as he called on people to show "bravery, determination and solidarity".
He said the effort to contain the coronavirus may take a while, and even once the immediate danger is overcome society will have to cope with its consequences, which will require a rethink of many facets of life.
"This will require all our knowledge, experience, determination, wisdom, but must of all it will require mutual respect and understanding."
"It will be difficult, perhaps even very difficult, but we will make it together," he said. "Good luck Slovenia. Fortune favours the bold," he concluded.
