Brussels, 25 April - Chairman of the NATO Military Committee General Klaus Naumann is to visit Slovenia at the beginning of next week at the invitation of the Slovene government. "Slovenia is applying for membership and the Military Committee assessed the country's military capabilities and its potential contributions to NATO. This assessment is now presented to the NATO Council, and it is NATO's military authorities advice on enlargement. In this paper we describe your country's capabilities, your force planning so far, as it was revealed to us through the intensified dialogue. We also assess what the accession of your country to NATO would mean in terms of potential contributions to NATO missions by Slovenia, as well as what it would mean for NATO's sixteen nations in terms of obligations if we had to defend your country collectively," General Naumann told Slovene journalists at the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels Friday. "That is where we stand on the military preparation for the Eastern enlargement decision-making process," he added.
