Economic Mirror: Real Increase of 1997 Budget Expenditure 13.3 Percent

In end July, the Government passed the 1997 budget plan, which sets budget expenditure in 1997 at SIT 737.9 billion, a 13.3 percent real increase over 1996 and a 8.7 percent increase without taking into account transfers for pensions and municipalities and without budget expenditure for health service. The planned budget deficit of SIT 27.4 billion is to reach 0.9 percent of GDP, making the first noticeable public finance deficit in Slovenia since independence, the Economic Mirror, the monthly bulletin of the government Office for Macroeconomic Analysis and Development, writes in its July edition.
